What happens on our land, impacts native species near and far. Non-native invasive species don’t respect political boundaries, plat maps, or geographic limits. And, unfortunately, once removed from their native environment they no longer have their normal predators and checks on their growth and spread. The result is their unchecked spread and out-competing with native species who may be ill-equipped against such a foreign invader. Examples: Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Longhorned beetle, Amur Honeysuckle, Callery Pear, Wintercreeper, Lesser Celandine, Asian Carp, and hundreds of other insects, animals, fish, and plants.
